[Review] Tesla Case (1st)

Tesla, the leading venture in EV (Electric Vehicle)

 

Now tesla is not a venture, it has earned the dramatic revenue & profit increase from Model 3 in 2018, and it is sky-rocketing in stock price, so it is an iconic company over Apple.

 

What does Tesla have innovation scerets?

1) The AC motor proposed by Nikola Tesla was applied as an actual electric vehicle power,

2) The designing a battery package combining battery cells

3) The level of automatic driving has been upgraded to Autopilot

 

Here, 3) Autopilot is still under controversy, and Tesla does not say that it's in the completion stage. So it will take more time and will be dealt with in a separate blog.

 

First of all, if we look at the 1) AC motor , Nikola Tesla commercialized a three-phase AC motor for which it applied for a patent in 1888, solving the problem that made commercialization difficult, and manufacturing a self-designed Cu (copper) indution motor in 2013.  It is more efficient than the rare-earch permanent manget (ND type, Neodymium) synchronous motor, and has secured tecnological differentiation that can cool the stator and rotor of the motor with water.

 

As Tesla started selling the Model 3 in earnest in 2018, it was on the road to success as an electric vehicle maker.  

 

After a lot of trial and error, the battery package was successfully optimized by configuring Cell > Module > Pack based on cylindrical cells to shorten the charing time and create the maximum mileage.

 

Now Tesla provides the specification of battery package as below,

- 1 cylindrical cell in NCA 18650 type (* diameter 18mm, length 65mm)

- 1 module consists of 444 cells

- 1 pack consists of 16 modules (* total 7104 cells - based on 85kWh)
