[Netflix Drama] Alchemy of Souls: Moo-deok vs Jin Bu-yeon

 

The drama "Alchemy of Souls" became a 20-episode episode in June 2022, and the drama "Alchemy of Souls 2: Light and Shadow" aired as part 2 and 10 episodes in December 2022.

 

Obviously, "Alchemy of Souls" Season 3 I'm looking forward to it, but it's unclear whether it will be attempted, and a spin-off from season 1/2 would be welcome.

I was also interested in fantasy historical dramas, which are uncommon in Korea, particularly in Chinese dramas, but because Korean viewers are also familiar with traditional martial arts, I think that it was able to secure regular fans for new jenre.

 

However, I believe the main focus of the drama was more young love story rather than fantasy action.

'Jang-wook' was the main target for the heroines, 'Moo-deok' or 'Jin Bu-yeon,' but 'Seo-yul' was also a childhood love and a relationship that was more than a friendship, and 'Seja Gowon' was a one-sided courtship relationship.

 

 

The two characters created by the two bodies and three souls are also the drama's main frame.

The character 'Moo-deok,' created by actress Jung So-min, is described as having the 'body' of a simple, ignorant, blind child who was abandoned in rural village and added the 'soul' of 'Nak-su' as the ultimate assassin.

'Moo-deok', Jeong So-min was distinguished by excellent facial expressions while lowering her status and expressing his status system with a savory Chungcheong-do dialect. When it transforms into a 'Nak-su,' it returns to a low-toned standard language with an expressionless face.

The 'body' and 'speech' of 'Mudeok' come from Moodeok, but the 'soul' was the 'Nak-su' as ultimate assassin, and it was actually the 'body' and 'soul' of Jin Bu-yeon, who vanished as a child.

 

 

Tiki-taka's relationship with 'Jang-wook,' played by Lee Jae-wook, appears to be the drama's real highlight.

In fact, Jin Bu-yeon is a high-ranking priestess and the heir to the Great Hoguk's four prestigious families, but I believe we can proceed with the assumption that he lived as 'Mudeok' for a period of time.

Character 'Jin Bu-yeon':  Innocent Beauty by Go Youn-jung

 

The 'Jin Bu-yeon' expressed by actress Go Youn-jung was a setting in which she was imprisoned in Jinyowon for three years in an innocent state and then escaped with the help of 'Jang Wook'.

At the end of episode 20 of Part 1 of "Alchemy of Souls", 'Moo-deok,' who had lost control, threw herself into Gyeongcheondae Lake, and she was rescued.

Now, 'Jin Bu-yeon,' who appeared in the first episode of "Alchemy of Souls" Part 2, is 'Nak-su' owned 'body', and it was a setting where Jin Bu-Yeon's 'soul' and Nak-Soo's 'soul' were mixed.

 

It appears to explain why the 'Jin Bu-Yeon' character is less attractive than the 'Moo-deok' character, despite the fact that it is a setup with two souls in one body.

Obviously, there are two souls, the 'soul' of Jin Bu-yeon and the'soul' of Nak-su, but I wasn't sure what the difference was throughout the drama.

In other words, I wanted to see Jin Bu-yeon and Nak-su characters, but it was in a setting where Jin Bu-yeon character showed Nak-su's memories intermittently.

 

The characters in the drama "Alchemy of Souls 2" explained that Naksus 'soul' vanished and Jin Bu-yeon's 'soul' remained at the end, but I couldn't see any difference other than that her strength was restored.

Perhaps the drama writer had an intention, but I believe the director and actors should have given it more thought.

In the drama "Alchemy of Souls 2", an actor Go Youn-jung was only promoted as a 'perfect beauty', but it appears that the drama ended without even holding a sword once.
